The Extra Mile
From Greatness Too Is Meant for You, an unpublished 2014 manuscript by Adetimilehin Inioluwa Victor (Vic’Adex). Lightly edited for grammar while preserving the original voice.
The height which great men oft attain,
‘Tis hard for others to obtain.
For while we sleep all through the night,
They pace the mile with all their might.
The milestone days that we struggle with,
They borrow the night to get it over with.
The journeys of many hard days
Now reduced to making leisure hays.
What differs most times is the mile.
Each step our rusty mile will sile.
When others wake their sleepy head,
We pounce a thousand steps ahead.
The extra mile will strain your might,
But it will never shut the light.
If you too dare the extra mile,
Success will be a hard-earned right.
Editor’s note: First drafted in the early Vic’Adex voice and preserved here as part of the Words on Rampage archive.
