Heralding the news
She came
I decided to wait
And see the game
Hoping I could remember the name
Chameleon of the changing colour
The quiet reptile
That knows no honour
Than to eat from a tree
And tear the bough
And frighten a bee
To break a bow.
You offered me some rose
And tore part of my nose
Forcing me to wink as people rose
Like a surgical patient on overdose.
You respond only to maniac’s bow
Indiscriminate of conscience’s doubt
Before you I bow
For human nature
Is all but though.
