A serious matter — Odia Ofeimun

We have no need for
the common salt of want and hunger
said the spokespersons of the people
as they rode kites of ballot paper
to the truth of an ancient wish

But we must stop these
air-conditioned arguments —
do something — said the Peoples’
lawyers
as they stood up and were
carried shoulder high

…When my mother came back
from the rally of rallies
the kitchenware welcomed her
with blank stares

The spokespersons of the people
did not tell her
where to find the next morsel
for her children
