For Mother

Original poetry

For Mother

From Greatness Too Is Meant for You, an unpublished 2014 manuscript by Adetimilehin Inioluwa Victor (Vic’Adex). Lightly edited for grammar while preserving the original voice.

For mother who always is!
My spectacle, my gold, my gargantuan bliss.
She plasters my forehead with loving kiss.
This piece of goodness I did not miss.

She bore in her an inside treasure.
Child-birthing struggles were never pleasure.
Her relentless sacrifice one could not measure.
Her love outweighs the grains of the heaviest seashore.
Even when up to her standard, I did not measure,
She took me as business, not a liable leisure.

If not all, but of one thing I’m sure:
I’m whatever I am because of her pressure.
My mother, my mother, my very first friend,
She also changes role to be my first girlfriend.
A myriad of breathtaking roles that does not end.
My stubbornness and roughness her love did bend.

In my worries and troubles, wise words she lend.
In my despair and gloom, prayers she’d send.
In my needs and wants, answers she’ll fend.
In arrays of mothers, she’s the perfect blend!

Editor’s note: First drafted in the early Vic’Adex voice and preserved here as part of the Words on Rampage archive.
