Original poetry
Still Smitten
From Greatness Too Is Meant for You, an unpublished 2014 manuscript by Adetimilehin Inioluwa Victor (Vic’Adex). Lightly edited for grammar while preserving the original voice.
Been many years, still smitten
Where Cupid’s dart has bitten me.
Many heartbreaks, still believing.
Moments with you: worth re-living
I’ll be a mocking bird
Of the greatest love songs,
Be the turn-table of
Its greatest stories!
You are the breath
That courses beauty’s vein
The brown of Cupid’s eye
For whom men lose their brains.
You’re the pumping heart
That gives my love life
You the destination for whom
My hormones took virgin drive
My mind is weary
Like hope in a trance
Meet me halfway
And I’ll tirelessly dance
All the great words
Are not enough
They’ll be exhausted,
And I’ll still go on
Ravishing, beautiful
Pretty, sweet on the eyes
Large-hearted, genius-brained,
Inspired, disciplined, self motivated
Let’s just say
I go creatively insane
On a rampage that cannot be tamed
Anytime I hear the wiser of your name!
Your smile will
Tame Ares of war
Turn the wisest of men
To the greatest of fools
You’re the greatest love tool
That has been handed to my mule
In the anguish of many rules
I pray we remain cool
It’s been many years, still smitten
Roaring jungle king, nice kitten
Yearning for love, stars written
Inside, sun- or rain-beaten.
Open your heart
Let me spend my Mandela years
Share your smiles and your ugly fears
Let me show you who truly cares!
