THE YEAR I DRANK FROM ALL CUPS

We began the journey in January
slogging our way through February
but the pains of March never scuppered plans for April
With tears and fears we stormed into May,
praying that in June our failures won’t leapfrog to July:
Didn’t you promise us rains in August?
Then came September
We were sanguine about October
and the fertility of November:
Smiles, not tears, shall crown our December
