  • FAIR TRADE — Adeolu Adesanya

FAIR TRADE

Trading with you, so much fun
Grading its price, so much pun
Stating the profit, a perfect con
A daylight robbery called fair trade
What sort of trade happens in reverse?
Buyers determine the price to buy
Farmers, victims of their hard-work
Sellers, coerced to the only option given
My sweat is dried up by the scorching sun
My flat pocket a harsh reality of deceit
My children wallow in hunger and misery
But feeding other children of the world is fair
Fair trade to you a fairy one
To me, just another nightmare
Reminds me of my fathers’ days
In those sugarcane plantations
When demand equals supply
Both parties parting with a smile
My children, a better future secured
Then that’s when a trade is fair
