In his dwindling days
In his dwindling days he made very destructive weapons to demolish the cellblocks of his
own existence, built through dint of billion years when the earth was seafresh and all else
thrived in starry distance from the dread of his arm.
He banished the fragrant breath of plants from cities, ran quiescent rivers off their
motherbeds, fed toxicants to fishes, drove the quagga to speedy grave, and stood
abandoned in the twilight of his plunder.
He clung to puny nations when floodwaters crashed through the continents, and
thunderstorms raged from extraterrestrial base, and the earthmold flared from Alaska to
the peaks of Thera, and the circling seas embattled the rockshields of the land.
He wagged his nonexistent tail and stood at stiff attention in the carpeted halls of every
prince, pope, or president, who cared to vex his hairy brawns into pogroms, genocides,
massacres, and glorious acts of self-extinction.
In his death-squeeze he broke into sick and twisted doctrines which went by the
blood-freezing ordinance of Apartheid in South Africa, Islamic Fundamentalism in Iran,
Nazism, Zionism, Communism, Social Darwinism.
