Native Prisoners

Gani, I viewed you
In our prison uniform
Your progressive hand
pointing to me
But, I need no reminder That
I am also a prisoner
We are all prisoners
Our prison is Nigeria
Our warders, in Khaki uniform
Even if we move about
Is our movement free?
What of us gagged
What of us naked
What of we the fasting skeletons
We are all prisoners.
You are a voice of the voiceless
You strut where Angels dread to tread
Your spirit, our spirits can not be bombed
The liberation march is on
On to the promised land
Where natives shall not live as foreigners
Neither shall we be jailed
For not licking Neo-colonialists’ boots
But for now, not only you
We are all priosners.
