31 Days of Poetry – Day 8 – UNTITLED – by Bliss

I was the grass
that bore the brunt
of duels
between two elephants

I was ignored
and my dreams
trampled upon

I believed in lies;
my heart became
synonymous with pain

I was a joke,
subject of no seriousness,
equal to a custard pie

I was abandoned
and left to wither,
but I thrived!

My heads didn’t bother
about the borders
I burdened myself with

But today I say no!

No to the lies I told myself,
that the scars are old
and memories buried

No!
I refuse to lie that it doesn’t hurt
to see footprints of war
all over my dreams

No!
Regret is not a path
For my mind to tread
No!
The antidote for my future
Is not war with my present

Yes!
I am grass, but
these droplets aren’t dew
They are teardrops
from a broken root
That I sprung from.
