The Motoni Olodun Slam

Mo-Slam, Vic'Adex, Poetry, Spoken word

Four years ago, I was out of a job and had just relocated from Maiduguri to Ogbomoso. It was a difficult season. In the middle of that uncertainty, I returned to spoken word poetry, something that has steadied me in my darkest moments.

Through Vic’Adex Concepts and Aesthetic Resources, I scraped together Open Mic Ogbomoso. The goal was to create a space where creatives could sharpen their skills, even those with STEM or non-art backgrounds, without needing permission, polish, or pedigree.

What began in January 2021 as a small monthly gathering has since grown into a trusted community platform. Poets, storytellers, and makers now meet without barriers. No admission fees. No gatekeeping. Just a shared commitment to growth.

I have learned that creative spaces like open mics are more than stages. They are laboratories for ideas, pressure valves for emotion, and places where confidence is built through practice.

At Open Mic Ogbomoso, participants have gained more than an audience. They have developed problem-solving skills, clarity of thought, and public speaking confidence that carry into careers and everyday life.

This year, I am introducing the Motoni Olodun Slam to continue that legacy. It is an invitation to anyone whose words have waited too long to be spoken, to bring them into a room with listeners ready to respond, challenge, and celebrate.
I am deeply grateful to those who have helped this space endure over the years:
Stephen Eniayewu, Tolulope Quadri, Chenemi, Wex, Mayowa, Aridunnu, Temiloluwa & Haevn

I appreciate your commitment to ensuring this safe space continues to thrive.
