Woman
The subject of many creative minds who write about
the many faces of woman.
Those hands that rock the cradle
now wield the pen, drive a lexus,
sign off multi-million Naira projects,
cook the meal, draw the water
and till the earth.
Woman
You God’s fair creation
Meant to build a nation
Remain just a woman
And not to woo the man.
You’re meant to be a mother
But not to always murder
You’re meant to give some shield
To me when I’m afield.
You’d try to make me happy
In these days that are sappy
Your voice should melt my heart
But not to burn my hat.
Your manners should be genuine
Or else I’ll think of quinine
Your feet should not be gypsy
Or you’ll be always tipsy.
You’d try to be my nurse
And not to mind my purse
If you believe in me
Bright will your morrow be.
Should your want drive my crazy
You’ll then becloud my vision
And then our future — illusion.
