Original poetry
Balm for the Street Stings
From Greatness Too Is Meant for You, an unpublished 2014 manuscript by Adetimilehin Inioluwa Victor (Vic’Adex). Lightly edited for grammar while preserving the original voice.
I have seen an unbalded vulture
Scavenging away dreams unsure
Viciously hunting gleams of hope
From those with whom success seeks asylum.
Where the sun is clouded with mist
Where barriers clench cold hardened fist
Many burn away, a dry crisp
Lacking essence, substance and means
Where all odds point "you dare not dream"
Survival’s daily lotion cream
The tides are high, the waters deep
Do not despair, give up or faint
Be the waters that defy rocks
With constant, hard persistent knocks
Forget the fairy tales of luck
Cling to hard work like dark shadows,
Which through dark nights, eclipses and storms
Will hang on, having no form,
Awaiting great light beam above
For her smiles are welded with theirs.
Editor’s note: First drafted in the early Vic’Adex voice and preserved here as part of the Words on Rampage archive.
