For Kolade Olanrewaju Freedom on his twentieth birthday
Look the young author day is here! It doesn’t take a seer
To tell you what it means
You are now twenty dear
Today you are twenty,
The minus and the plus
Of adulthood is yours
So let’s all make a fuss
Let’s make a pleasant noise
Let’s all be girls and boys
Together one last time
Remembering youth’s joy
It’s sorrows all forget
We won’t pretend we are not.
Aware there was a few
Since you were in cot
This night and day is yours
But once- no more encores
So let us make the most of it
Let’s open doors
The future waits on you
The past bids fond adieu
The present is alive
With friends both tried and true
We’ll eat and drink
And toast your name
Our lovely host
Or is it poet, we’d better let it coast
We wish you all you wish yourself
A heaped up dish
Of happiness and sweet fufilment
Tush and pish!
I’m running out of rhymes!
This time of all times
It just won’t countenance
its happening for dimes
For nairas or for gold in gots
I’ll just hold your hand
And kiss your cheek
And Bless your growing old
Another fifty years you’ll be(flood of tears)
As old as your mum
And as quite as ancient as your peers
It’s all a lovely song
An anthem to a long
And magical career
Let’s sing the bells during dong
Dear Kolade ever since I met you(I won’t mince
My words)
I thought how to know you
Get any hints?
I want another kiss
From the birthday boy
For whom I’m glad to say
I’m writing all of this lot
As socrates once said
Before they drugged him dead
Just get to know yourself
And have your wine and bread
Thats all I’ll say just now
But make a final vow
To always be your friend
However you allow
On with your twentieth
Lets quench our healthy thirst
For life and food for thought
To the best, forget the worst!
Good luck, God Bless you Freedom
I’ll stop this verse in spate
And wish you what you wish youself
More soon than late.
