I PLEDGE
I pledge to poetry
My glorious country
To straight the truth
Not to bend the truth
To call a spade, a spade
Not a spade, a rake
I pledge to poetry
My glorious country
To combat all lies
And their office-ministers
Who paint our souls a deceit
With the colours of theft
I pledge to poetry
My glorious country
To safe the mere men
And their unborn children
From the teeth of looters
Who wear the gowns of leaders
I pledge to poetry
My glorious country
To say to the church
That they speak much
On weath than holiness
Worldliness for righteousness
I pledge to poetry
My glorious country
To tell the apostles of lust
And the choirs of flirt
They’re but Snake-trains
That run souls on hell tracks
I pledge to poetry
My glorious country
To tell the bench warmers
Of false brothers and sisters
They’re but termites
Munching church progress
I pledge to poetry
My glorious country
To rhyme peaceful smiles
On all lovers’ faces
But to sing hatred a dirge
To flee the hearts of every age
I pledge to poetry
My glorious country
To always remain her citizen
In time of fame and of prison
I pledge to be loyal, till
I drop my pen on a memorial hill
