Peter’s Surprise:
Near the base of His cross I stood;
Nothing about this dayhad turned out good.
Some wept, others pointed and jeered,
I departed, troubled and feared.
An innocent man had just died upon that cross.
That night I could not sleep, but instead began to toss.
He had been my leader and all-knowing friend.
When would the pain of His death come to an end?
The night before He died I betrayed Him three times;
At least I hadn’t turned Him in for a mere thirty dimes.
They buried Him in a brand new tomb,
And all around people clung together in gloom.
Three days later, what an unbelievable tale my friends and I beheld.
Some women said the tomb was empty where just yesterday He dwelled!
They said they saw angels and claimed, “He is risen!”
But I figured the Romans just stole His dead body and put it in prison.
So I ran to the tomb and beheld the sight.
Nothing was there but the cloth-white.
In desperation and anger I turned away,
And wondered about His disappearance all through the day.
Later on, many of His closest friends gathered around.
But we all just sat there and talked and frowned.
All of the sudden a bright light filled the room,
And Jesus appeared-Hehad risen from the tomb!
In awe I proclaimed, “He arose!”
Overwhelming joy flowed all the way down to my toes.
Trembling in amazement I fell upon my knees and grasp His hand.
Everyone else rejoiced saying, “To see you again is grand!”
My Savior has returned!
Now my job is to tell others what I’ve learned.
Simon Peter is my name,
And fishing for people is my game.
