Each treacherous day brings in the wise
Seditiousness of unbelieving eyes
I conceded myself Homeric years ago
And spellbound in Journey to this lesson now

How do you tell the young wrath to pass
The reflexive is the active’s looking- glass
The trail finds it’s only response time
Time turned defector to the quizzical dream

Assignment personally again, I lament for youth
Obsessed with the ardent jeopardy of guessed truth
These spirits bringing uncertainty before my chair
Which I permeate with a remembering fear

They request, not knowing I have less than they
Though something admit, presumed to say
And from entomed books tear out my place and bread
They come by famished for another food

They are my reminiscence of the inferno I fled
For this long mastering refutation bled
From life I learned to make a drooping gain
Without learning enough to abscond the pain

I would chatter now, seeing all that I see
Such fearless peremptory faces hope’s eternity
But why edify warning to the passionate young?
I chatter the libretto’s I taught to hold my tongue
